How To Break Into The Games Industry
Q: How did you break into game development industry?
A: I didn’t. I knocked and they let me in.
By the time I’ve got my first game dev job, I already had a fair sized portfolio of hobbyist games, been part of two game dev startups (Pure Power and Cyber Ninja), and been through various non-games software development jobs. As I knew the studio manager through networking, he was aware of my tech skills, so I didn’t even go through a tech interview.
Within my first week “in the mainstream games industry”, the project manager came to me at 9PM saying “this port of this game on this phone has to be delivered until tomorrow at 8AM”.
So yeah, take of this what you will.
